Spring Seedlings Emerge from the Basement!

For the past three years of starting our own seedlings  for the farm, we have graduated from the basement to a new “sunroom” fully equipped with potting bench, warming racks, grow lights, running water, and heat! It is quite an upgrade, which we hope will be reflected in the quality of our seedlings. It is certainly easier…

New Greenhouse!

We are super excited to announce that the grant for our new greenhouse finally went through, we purchased a 30×48 greenhouse from PA and the bulk of the frame is already up! Waiting for the greenhouse really delayed the planting of our tomatoes…but despite the delay they are growing nicely under the new frame. We…

Spring Planting

Spring planting is well underway! The temperature looks promising well into June, so we are in crazy planting mode. Probably 50% or more of the crops are already in the ground. Perfectly timed spring rains are also helping with the process! We are thankful for the Lord’s good provision.

Abundance Acres is a Buzz!

A journey that began last year has finally come to fruition! Last summer we received word that several hives and bee equipment were being given away in a town nearby. We called to reserve the equipment and headed down with a trailer as soon as we could. We were blown away by the donation of…

End of Season

In the midst of fall colors and cool mornings, the end of the Abundance Acres’ CSA season has come. We are thankful to God for a wonderful growing year and a bountiful harvest. Thank you to all our wonderful share members and volunteers for your support! We look forward to seeing you next growing season!

Potatoes – One to Another

This year we had the opportunity to play surrogate mother to about 20 lbs of potatoes from the Chester-Andover Family Center. In August volunteers from the Family Center joined us for the harvest. The volunteers returned to the center with 120 lbs of farm fresh potatoes!

First (and Second) Distribution!

The first and second distributions for 2015 have come and gone. Produce is becoming well established in the field and the greenhouse. This warmer and dryer spring has allowed for an earlier distribution than last year. While mainly greens are on  the distribution board strawberries and garlic scapes are coming along nicely. Stop by, lend…

Getting Hungry?

Field work has been going non-stop for the past few weeks, getting soil ready, seeding, watering and transplanting. It is shaping up to be a great year as crops begin to take root. It has been a dry spring, but the irrigation system is keeping up and seeds are germinating with out too much extra…

Seeds to Seedlings

The snow has melted at last and so it appears summer is around the corner! As the ground warms up, the weeks are becoming busier seeding flats of peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, lettuce, herbs and a variety of other vegetables. Since the nights are still cold, our unheated greenhouse offers no protection for the tender seedlings,…

2015 Seed Order Placed!

We have now placed our seed order for this year’s growing season. The following is a list of new crops that we will be trialing this coming year. Many of these crops are new to us, and may be challenging for us to grow. We’ll see! Brussels Sprouts Eggplant Fennel Yellow and Purple Slicing Tomatoes…

Darth Vader Invades!

The Dark Side is starting to take over our hen yard with the addition of Darth Vader, a year old rooster, from a family in the community. His crows that now echo around Abundance Acres are strange to get used to, and even Meadow, our dog takes notice. Our hope is that Darth will keep…
