Planting Begins!

We are thankful for every sunny day we get as the ground is drying out after winter. Things are now dry enough to start planting some cold hardy transplants out! All our leeks and onions are now in the ground. Greenhouses are also starting to be seeded in preparation for our first harvests in June.

New Greenhouse Plastic

6 years has flown by! Our oldest greenhouse plastic is now due for a change. A group of community members joined us to replace the plastic on a calm evening this month. The greenhouse which was also leaning significantly, was straightened up. With new plastic and a square greenhouse…boy won’t those tomatoes taste better!? 😉

At Long Last…

We have finally completed the greenhouse we started building this spring through a grant from the NRCS! Building this large of a project could not have been done without many hands… leveling the land, building the frame, putting the arches in place and covering with plastic. It looks like the project was completed just in…

New Greenhouse!

We are super excited to announce that the grant for our new greenhouse finally went through, we purchased a 30×48 greenhouse from PA and the bulk of the frame is already up! Waiting for the greenhouse really delayed the planting of our tomatoes…but despite the delay they are growing nicely under the new frame. We…

Lao Garden

Ever since our time in Laos we’ve craved good Lao ingredients to authenticate various dishes. In the northeast, however, these tropical plants are slow in growing. It has taken most of the summer, but with the help of the greenhouse we have some crops to show for the effort. Enjoy a this gallery displaying a…

Winter Cover

With snow now on the ground we are very thankful that everything is ready for winter. It was a rush to beat the frost and complete all the clean up tasks in order to make the farm ready for the next 6 months of cold! The winter rye in the new field germinated nicely and…

Clipping Tomatoes

We are trying a new method of trellising the tomatoes in the Greenhouse. It is a method by which one leader is trained to climb up a string from each plant. This allows for convenient harvesting, efficient use of space and good airflow. Fruit is starting to form and we are looking forward seeing how…

Anticipated First Harvest

Crops are bursting out of the ground (mainly in the Green house) adding color and life to the Abundance Acres’ gardens. We are very excited as we anticipate our first harvest and have taken pictures to depict what is in store.

100%

We are excited to announce that Abundance Acre’s greenhouse is 100% funded! We would like to thank all those who contributed to this project, both financially and through donations of time and equipment! We look forward to growing tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers in this house come spring. For more giving opportunities visit our wish list…

First Layer

We are thankful for a warmish temperatures, extra hands to help and a long enough break on a windy day… all these came to together to allow us to get the first layer of plastic on the greenhouse! While we are far from planting, getting the greenhouse covered keeps the snow from piling up over…

Greenhouse Construction

With weather just above freezing during the day and the ground thawing this might be our last chance to install the new greenhouse before real winter sets in. With the help of Jeff and Mark and some heavy equipment, we selected a spot next to the strawberry beds. Putting a 2nd hand green house together…

First Greenhouse

We reached a monumental milestone on the farm this weekend! On November 29th we purchased our first greenhouse! It came second hand from a couple in Northern NH. On a frosty single-digit morning, four of us piled into a borrowed Suburban pulling an equipment trailer and buckled-up for the 3.5hr drive. The greenhouse was advertized…
