New Life

Planting seeds in the middle of February, while the snow is several feet deep and the promise of spring seems distant, is an act of faith. In general, scattering precious seeds onto bare soil at any time, is a deed of surrender. The seeds may or may not germinate. The work and money invested into sowing them might be in vain. As we bury seeds, covering them with soil, we only have hope that they will someday soon germinate, emerge, grow and bear fruit. In just the same way seeds of life are planted in us, but it is the Lord who waters and causes the seeds to grow. How exciting it is on that day when little green shoots poke out of dark earth!

Onion Seedlings

When our onions germinated 5-10 days earlier than expected we were very excited. We said to one another, “Well, we must have done something right!” In reality the Lord did all the work. All we did right, was to sow and surrender the rest of the process to Him that gives new life in abundance!

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:4
