The farm-yard life recently increased rapidly as we received 16 laying hens from two community members. The hen house is a refurbished 10×12 galvanized shed. All it needed was a little insulating with some donated blue board scraps, some re-framing, a trap door cut and some nesting boxes added. In addition to their coop, the hens can roam on 2500 square feet of fenced in pasture, feasting on bugs, grubs and grass. We are getting roughly 9 eggs a day, a number that we hope to increase in the spring with an addition of fresh layers. Eggs are available, though in limited amounts!
