Mud-luscious

In Just – by E.E. Cummings

in Just-
spring     when the world is mud –
luscious the little
lame balloonman

whistles far and wee
and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it’s
spring

when the world is puddle-wonderful

the queer
old balloonman whistles
far and wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing
from hop-scotch and jump-rope and

it’s spring
and
the
goat-footed
balloonman whistles
far
and
wee

It seems as if our mud season has come with a vengeance this year. It is so fun to enjoy the subtle beauty of Spring for a little longer this year, but this cold wet snap has certainly delayed our transplanting. Our fields are the perfect example of mud-lucious and puddle-wonderful! We’ll see how the rest of May shapes up and hope this doesn’t push back our first distribution too far.
