A Fall Planting

While most crops are gearing down for the winter, garlic is gearing up! This past week we prepared a bed of garlic, some 300ft. We planted two varieties of hardneck garlic. Marino (a purple) and German (a porcelain). The 10lbs of heads filled our bed with only a few cloves to spare. A grass and leaf mulch will bed the crop down for the winter.

The field of buckwheat is only a vague memory now that it is tilled under…except of a sack of seed we collected for next year. The rest of the field is seeded to winter rye.
