Lettuce – Salad Mix

Lettuce is without doubt one of the world’s favorite vegetables, and with good reason. Summer days are unthinkable without the refreshing presence of lettuce! Consisting of 95 percent water, the darker varieties are the most nutritious with higher levels of vitamins A and C, betacarotene, folate and calcium.

Head Lettuce Under Row Cover

On our farm we grow loose leaf Salad Mix and Oakleaf, as well as a variety of head lettuces, including Butterhead (also known as Buttercrunch and Bibb), and Romaine (also known as Cos Lettuce).

Selection and Storage: Keep lettuces in perforated plastic bags in the refrigerator crisper for 3 days. Wash well before using. A salad spinner is an excellent tool in eliminating excess water that clings to the leaves.

Culinary Uses: Lettuce is undeniably the best when served as a star ingredient of a simple salad, but many cuisines cook the leafy green to great effect.
