Chicken Sale

UPDATE: This chicken harvest was on the 8th of September, 2014. Our next harvest will be sometime in July 2015.

We are kicking off our first meat chicken sale. You are welcome to sign up to receive whole chickens that will be harvested in early September. An exact date will be announced as the time approaches. Funds from the sale will support the ministry of Abundance Acres. Birds are available as supply lasts, so sign up early!

Birds are sold by the pound and should average around 5lbs/bird. We are selling them for $3 a pound, but if you would like to contribute more to the ministry of Abundance Acres more is also welcome! Birds will be harvested and wrapped in waxed freezer paper as whole birds. We will process the birds so they will be ready to roast (head, feet, innards etc. all removed). Harvesting is done on the farm. The meat will be stored in a cooler and you will be expected to pick up your bird(s) on the day of the harvest. Please pay when you pickup your bird.

The chickens are raised on grain, but have a constant supply of fresh grass as they are ‘free range’ in moveable open-bottomed pens. We use a breed called Freedom Rangers which we source from a hatchery in Pennsylvania. Commercial-store bought chicken does not compare to farm fresh chicken!

Hi – we’d be interested in participating. There is nothing better than non-antibiotic meat.

However, when you say “whole birds,” does that mean the head, claws and feathers will still be on the body? If so, we’ll need to double think this as I couldn’t bring myself to handle removing them….

  2. James, thanks for the question. Whole birds will be de-feathered, innards removed, No head and no feet. They will be ready to throw in the oven, crock pot..etc. I’ll refine the post above to reflect this and make it more clear. Thanks!
