As the new asparagus shoots get established, so have the weeds. To stay ahead of the weeds we laid several layers of newspaper on the freshly weeded soil and then covered it with 2 cut hay. We hope that this mulching will help eliminate weeds. We also added some lime to the soil since it was slightly too acidic for asparagus.
